Spring Cleaning

Helpful tips and tricks

TIDY UP FIRST

By picking up things that are out of place and tucking them away makes the process of actually cleaning less daunting. Use a plastic laundry basket to gather items that need to be put away and a trash bag for things that need to be tossed. Now you can dust and vacuum much more easily!

PICK A ROOM AND STICK WITH IT

If you are bouncing from room to room, you may not see many results from your efforts. Always clean a room from the ceiling to the floor so that dust doesn't fall on an already clean surface. Start with ceiling fans, dust surfaces, and end with vacuuming or sweeping. It doesn't really matter which room you clean first. Some people like to tackle the most difficult rooms to clean, like bathrooms or kitchens, first. Or, you can start with the spots where family and guests gather. The key is to get at least one space in really good shape. This is particularly important if you only have a limited amount of time to clean.

LET APPLIANCES AND CLEANING PRODUCTS DO THE HARD WORK

Nearly every home has appliances that can do most of the cleaning for us. When you start doing chores, spend the day at the office, or binge watch Netflix, load the dishwasher and start a load of laundry so that the appliances are working while you are busy doing something else.

Next, head to the kitchen or bathrooms and spray products that need to sit to break down soap scum or grease. Letting these products sit means less scrubbing when you come back to that room.

CREATE A WEEKLY OR MONTHLY CHORE PLAN

What are the things that need to be done every day, once per week, once per month? Put it on a calendar! You can get on a schedule and never feel like you are tackling everything all at once.
